The Polar Express

Submitted by: Denise Mann

It is the story of a little boy who learns that the true meaning of christmas is found when you truly believe – beautifully illustrated. I read it every year!

I am 23 years old, and very Christmas Eve for as long as I can remember, my dad has read several books to my siblings and me. We sit in our living room as a family, with the Christmas tree, and he reads the Nativity story from the Gospel of Luke, The Night Before Christmas and The Polar Express. This story and my dad’s voice reading this story is such an important part of Christmas for me. Every time he reads it, he gets choked up and cries a little toward the end of the story, and as my siblings and I have gotten older, we also have sometimes gotten a little emotional as the story wraps up. I believed in Santa Claus for a very long time and this book is a big reason why. This book is also a big part of why my family and I try to keep the magic alive in Christmas every year. Each of my siblings and I have our own copy of The Polar Express and I plan to read it to my own kids on Christmas Eve, just as my dad has done.
